What is TDEE?

TDEE stands for Total Daily Energy Expenditure. It represents the total number of calories your body burns in a day, taking into account your basal metabolic rate (BMR), which is the number of calories your body needs to function at rest, plus any additional calories burned through physical activity and the thermic effect of food (calories burned during digestion). TDEE is an important factor to consider when trying to manage weight, as it helps determine how many calories you need to consume to maintain, gain, or lose weight.

Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) is comprised of several factors. Here are the main components:

1. Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR): This is the number of calories your body needs to maintain basic bodily functions at rest, such as breathing, circulating blood, and cell production.

2. Physical Activity Level (PAL): This includes any additional calories burned through physical activities such as exercise, work-related activities, and daily movement.

3. Thermic Effect of Food (TEF): This is the energy expended during the process of digesting, absorbing, and storing food.

4. Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis (NEAT): This refers to the calories burned through non-exercise activities such as fidgeting, standing, and other daily activities that are not deliberate exercise.

Here's a simplified breakdown of the contribution of each factor to TDEE:
